Join our cast! Hashtag Comedy is excited to grow the cast of our Hot People Near You Live Sketch Show Casts! Auditions are scheduled for Monday 8/3 and 8/4 at the time slots available in the Google Form below.
Auditions will take place at the Hashtag Comedy Club, 1253 N. High St. (parking available in rear).
About Hot People Near You:
We are Hashtag Comedy’s house team for sketch comedy, founded in January of 2023. For the last 3 years we have primarily focused on live performance at Hashtag, with the occasional travel show at a few different theatres. More than likely we will continue to focus on live sketch, but depending on interest, we may look into doing more videos (more people on the cast makes it a lot easier to split attention). We usually do about 4 shows a year, plus a show for Hashtag during the Columbus Comedy Festival, along with random other shows or festivals we get into.
What We Are Looking For?
We are looking to add both performers and writers to the cast. Want to do both? Great, most of our cast already does that so you will fit right in. Only want to write or perform? Great, we’re looking for that as well. Like stated before, we do about 5-6 total shows a year, with about 4-6+ rehearsals for each show, with most of them right before the show. Sketch comedy takes the most amount of meeting and rehearsal time compared to improv or stand up, so we are looking for people who are able to devote the time necessary, which not only includes the actual meetings, but writing and/or line memorization outside of practice. Sketch takes a lot of time to put together, so we are calling it out now so you can be prepared if you join the team.
What Do I Need To Do If I Want To Perform?
You will fill out the form on the next page. Skip the “Writer” section and fill out the “Performer” section. Here you will give us your general availability for the auditions on August 3rd and 4th, as well as August 10th and 11th if we need to do callbacks. If there is a slot available, we will reach back out to confirm the time. Please Respond Within 48 Hours Of Us Reaching Out To Help Guarantee You A Slot.
On the day of your audition, please come 5-10 minutes before it starts. Please arrive on time. Not only is this a bad impression, but if we have gone 5 minutes past your slot, and the next person is available, we will skip your slot and move on. If something comes up, please email Hot People Near You ( hotpeoplenearyou@gmail.com) as soon as possible, and if we are able to fit you in, we will try, but cannot guarantee anything. Once there, please enter Hashtag through the back door so as to not disturb the audition that will be running before your slot. Somebody will greet you, get you signed in, and then once we are good in the theater, we will bring you in.
We are looking to make the audition itself as low pressure as possible (crazy to say that after all those threatening sentences beforehand). It should only take 10-15 minutes and it will just be you and us, no other auditionees watching. The audition will consist of:
Short Introduction
3-5 minute monologue/character piece
A prepared sketch reading
Any additional questions
For the monologue, you can do whatever you want, as long as it is not standup! Either from a play, famous movie, or something you wrote yourself. If you did write it, let us know! What we are looking for here is a good sample of what you can do for us. For the prepared sketch reading, upon audition confirmation, we will email you 3 different sketches, with a part assigned to each. At the audition, let us know what sketch from those three you would like to do, and we will do a table read of the part with you. There Is No Pressure To Memorize This Sketch! If you want to, awesome! All we ask that you are familiar with the sketch before you read it with us. If you would like to perform your part onstage, just know we will be reading our parts offstage and on book.
What Do I Need To Do If I Want To Write?
You will fill out the form on the next page. Skip over the “Performer” Section, and just fill out the “Writer” Section. Answer the questions, and then submit a writing sample. We are looking for 2-3 samples of your writing. They can be sketches, short films (less than 10 pages preferably), scenes from a play, or anything else you may see fit. If you have any video of your piece(s) being performed, we would love to see that as well.
What Do I Need To Do If I Want To Both Perform And Write?
All you will need to do is fill out both sections of the form and you should be all set. In the past, we have not had a clear line between “writer’ and “performer”, so if you only get in as one there may be “mobility” to do either. But for now, we will just have you do just what we bring you in to do, whether it be just a writer or just a performer.
