Youth Improv for Anxiety (5 Week Series)

  • The Hashtag Comedy Co. Columbus, Ohio (map)

About:

This playful improv class gives adolescents and young adults tools for getting out of their heads, connecting with their bodies, and becoming more present in the moment. Through improv games and intentional silliness, participants will explore techniques that encourage mindfulness, awareness, spontaneity, and self-expression.

The class will also introduce the concept of interoception, sometimes called the “eighth sense,” which is our ability to notice and interpret signals from within our bodies and recognize how physical sensations can connect with emotions. Participants will practice tuning into these signals while using improv to experiment with letting go of self-consciousness, embracing the unexpected, and having fun.

This class is educational and recreational, not therapeutic. It does not provide diagnosis, formal treatment, or a replacement for therapy or other mental health care. Instead, participants will learn playful improv-based techniques for practicing presence, self-awareness, and letting go of anxious thoughts all while having fun!

This is a 5-week course. Classes will take place on Saturdays, Nov 21 - Dec 19, from 2-4 PM.

About the Instructor:

Lindy Zahrndt, LPCC-S, is a practicing psychotherapist with 20 years of experience and a master's degree in clinical counseling. She currently maintains a private practice in Grandview, where she specializes in trauma and works extensively with teens and young adults.

Lindy has seen firsthand the growing prevalence of anxiety among adolescents and young adults, who make up nearly 60% of her current caseload. Her clinical experience has given her a particular interest in helping young people develop practical tools for managing anxiety, increasing self-awareness, and getting out of their heads.

Outside of her clinical work, Lindy is an active member of the Columbus improv community. She has completed all four levels of improv instruction at Hashtag Comedy, participated in numerous improv workshops, and assisted Paul S. with teaching a Level One class in 2024. She is also a founding member of the improv troupe Meat Fish Produce, formed in 2023.
