About: Improv without object work and scene painting is like a toilet without a seat. It's still a toilet technically, but not one we're happy about! Object work and scene painting should be considered essential, and yet for many improvisers, the default is "talking heads." In this workshop for intermediate to advanced improvisers, we'll gain an understanding of the value and importance of object work and scene painting. We'll also workshop best practices through drilling and coaching.
Designed and led by Katie Drown. Katie is an improviser, teacher, and Director of Curriculum at Hashtag Comedy Co. based in Columbus, Ohio. A lifelong singer and actor, Katie discovered improv comedy at The Ohio State University in 2011, where she trained with Fishbowl Improv and quickly fell in love with the art form. On stage, Katie is an original cast member of musical improv groups TBD: The Improvised Musical and Ladies Who Lounge. Outside the theater, Katie is the co-founder of WitWorks, Hashtag’s corporate improv training partner, where she designs and facilitates experiential learning programs based in improv for organizations across the country and abroad.

Prerequisites: Intermediate to advanced improv experience required (Hashtag level 3+)
If the course is cancelled, tuition will be refunded.
Age requirement: 19-119 welcome!
Students must abide by Hashtag Comedy’s community guidelines to remain in good standing within our educational programs.
PARKING: Students may park in the back of the Hashtag Theater space when spots are available. Free parking validation for said lot is available inside the theater, but students are responsible for validating their own parking.
