Foundations for the Improvised Musical

  • Hashtag Comedy Headquarters at The Fort (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

If you've ever watched Wayne Brady make up a song on the spot on "Whose Line is it Anyway?", caught TBD: the Improvised Musical on a Friday night Up Front at Shadowbox Live or even just catch yourself singing little ditties for your dog on the daily, then Foundations of the Improvised Musical is the course for you.

In this four week foundational class, participants will learn

  • Basic song structure and how songs are built

  • How to improvise melodies, create rhymes and build strong choruses in the moment

  • How to leverage emotion in your music to create a strong point of view

  • The basics of group numbers

  • The basics of on-the-spot harmonization

...and more!

This is a four week workshop, with dates running:

  • Thursday, 11/8, 7pm-8:30pm

  • Thursday, 11/15, 7pm-8:30pm

  • **NO CLASS THURSDAY 11/22**

  • Thursday 11/29, 7pm-8:30pm

  • Thursday 12/16, 7pm-8:30pm

The workshop is fun, immersive and interactive...and the best part is, just about ANYONE can do this class! That's right, you don't have to consider yourself a singer to enjoy and learn the material. Improvised music rewards those with the guts to try...even if you don't have a lot of musical or improvisational experience.

(All that to say, some improv experience (on stage or completed classes) and familiarity with music and/or musicals will help you in this class, but is not necessary for registration.)

Spots are limited for this class, so sign up soon!
